Siempre hay dudas sobre si debemos usar "tell or say"... Aqui hay algunos truquitos que pueden ayudarte:
1- Objeto indirecto-Objeto directo:
Say something to someone ( 1º DO, 2ªIO) direct object, indirect object
Say necesita un Ojecto directo.
"Can you say yor ame one more time?"
Tell someone something (1º IO, 2ªDO) indirect object, direct object
Tell necesita un objeto indirecto.
"He tells me stories every night."
2- Collocations:
Say: Say yes/no - Say something - Say hello/goodbye - Say a prayer - Say a word -
Tell: Tell the truth/lie - Tell a joke - Tell the time - Tell a story - Tell a secret - Tell the difference
3- En Estilo indirecto:
Say: En oraciones y exclamaciones, necesita inversion de sujeto y verbo:
"He said: What a horrible room!"
Tell: En órdenes y consejos:
"He told me to take pills."
"He told me to close the door."
4- Idioms:
Time will tell: you do not know the outcome.
"I am applying for jobs, but time will tell. "
kiss and tell: to go to tv to talk about a romance with a celebrety and earn tons of money.
"Belen Esteban was paid $10.000 to kiss and tell her story."
Never say never: You have possibilities, you never know...
"He doesn´t want to go to Paris, but never say never."
Before you can say Jack Robinson: very quickly.
"I will be there before you can say Jack Robinson."
